The Fourth of July for hundreds in Simi Valley turned into a night of devastation and fear after a set of fireworks exploded leaving over 30 injured. For members of the Simi Valley community who attended the Rancho Santa Susana Community Park fireworks event the Fourth of July is still much a part of their lives Saturday Morning.

The injured ranged in ages from 17 months to 78-years-old and of those injured many sustained burns and shrapnel wounds while others were trampled by the crowd rushing away from the center of the celebration.

Although the investigation into the explosion is ongoing, police said it appeared a firework exploded prematurely and then knocked over surrounding fireworks causing them to aim across the field. Police said this witness account also identified a row of fireworks that fell over. Investigators will continue to search for more reasons why the explosion occurred and also if all procedures were followed in terms of set up and crowd distance.

Bay Fireworks, the company who put on the fireworks display, made a statement that it "deeply regrets" the incident and will conduct a thorough investigation. However, as KTLA points out Bay Fireworks has a history of firework accidents and may need further investigation.
