Friday around 6:00 am, an explosion was heard outside of a house in Lemert Park.

According to L.A. City Fire spokesman Dave Ortiz, the blast occurred at 4329 S. 9th Avenue. The natural gas explosion broke all the windows on the first and second floor of the home.

The woman inside her home at the time was a 79 year old who sustained critical burns from the explosion. She was taken to the hospital and was stable but in critical condition. She had said that she had smelled gas a day or two prior to the explosion. Additionally, neighbors also confirmed that they had smelled gas coming from the house.

According to KTLA, “A buildup of natural gas due to a leak in the laundry room was believed to have led to the powerful explosion near the back of the home, officials said.”
