Explosive Brazilian wonder-kid Neymar shined Saturday, as he led the Brazilian national team to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Japan in the opener of the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 tournament. Neymar continued to prove his worth for his new owner, FC Barcelona, as he enchanted the crowd once again on the home turf with his world-class performance, scoring one goal during the process.

Neymar broke the tie with a sensational half-volley strike to the top left-hand corner and past Eiji Kawashima inside of three minutes. Paulinho doubled the lead by placing a cross from Daniel Alves behind the net on the 48th minute. Jô ultimately sealed the result during the additional time, completing a last minute counter-attack finishing off a pinpoint grounder from Oscar. The victory allowed Selecao to maintain its unbeaten record against the Asian champion.

Japan, on the other hand, had a disappointing match. With only 37 percent possession in hand, the Japanese barely posed a threat to Canarinha's goal, despite having multiple cuts through the hosts’ defense line. Although he won a Premier League medal with Manchester United past season, Shinji Kagawa’s presence on the pitch was buried under the tight Brazilian mark. Keisuke Honda similarly seemed to have lost his flair, as he failed carry the ball past opponent defenders and into Brazil's penalty box.

The 21-year-old Neymar was awarded the FIFA Man of The Math, under cheers and screams of delight from the supporters. Neymar has raised the anticipation and expectations yet again as to what he could bring to Camp Nou in the upcoming season after recently penning down a transfer deal worth £48 million.

The home crowd colored the interior of the stadium in Brasilia with vibrant green and yellow celebrating the team’s first victory in the campaign after the final whistle. Brazil will secure a trip to the tournament semifinals with a win against Mexico on Wednesday, whilst Japan must strive for a point in the group stage against Italy next match if they still want to be regarded as a contender for the next round.
