Nelson Mandela was admitted to the hospital on Friday and is said to be in "serious but stable condition" according to The Daily Beast and Mac Maharaj, the presidential spokesman for South Africa. The 94-year-old was admitted to the hospital early Friday morning for a reoccurring lung infection.

Mandela has been hospitalized five times over the past two years and according to BBC, he's receiving expert medical attention not far from his home in suburban Johannesburg, South Africa.

Maharaj stated Friday to BBC that, "What I am told by doctors is that he is breathing on his own and I think that is a positive sign," he said. The doctors are doing everything they can to make him comfortable and better.

Mandela's wife has been at his bed side since the early hours of Saturday  morning.
