Street battles between pro- and anti-Morsi protesters in Cairo and Alexandria have left two dead and many others injured. Clashes broke out outside the local headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party whose offices were also set on fire by the protesters.

According to local health officials, one of the victims was an Egyptian who died of gunshot wounds. The other victim is said to be an American citizen who was stabbed. Muslim Brotherhood officials have said that, as of Friday, a total of six people have been killed this week.

In Tahrir Square, thousands of anti-Morsi protesters chanted: "Banish the murshid [the Brotherhood leader], and all who are with him." Five miles away, near the presidential palace, hundreds of thousands gathered in defense of his office and his beliefs. "Islam, Islam," some shouted. "Islam in spite of liberalism."

Tensions are running high ahead of nationwide anti-government protests planned for Sunday as political violence continues to worsen across the country. Many fear that the worst is yet to come.

There are reports that the US will work to reduce official presence at Cairo embassy. It has also warned US citizen "to defer non-essential travel to Egypt at this time due to the continuing possibility of political and social unrest."
