On the second day of the court martial of Private First Class Bradley Manning, prosecutors focused on establishing Manning's motive for leaking classified material to the website WikiLeaks.

Convicted computer hacker Adrian Lamo, the man who turned Manning in to federal authorities, took the stand. Lamo testified that he and Manning were not personal acquaintances, and that Manning contacted him because of his reputation among hackers.

NBC News reported that one message from Manning to Lamo read, “If you had unprecedented access to classified networks 14 hours a day 7 days a week for 8+ months, what would you do?”

Asked by the defense whether Manning ever stated that he "wanted to help the enemy," Lamo responded, "Not in those words, no," according to the Washington Post.

"It can only be described as a show trial," WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange told the Huffington Post. The prosecution has vigorously fought to exclude all evidence as to motives, and all evidence as to outcomes. No one was harmed as a result of the publications."
