Twenty-four people were killed and another 30 injured after a bomb was set off near a bus in the city of Quetta. Following this, another device was detonated at the hospital where family and friends gathered for the victims of the bombing.
Eleven of the 24 killed in the bus blast were university students, likely traveling home after a day of courses. According to the Independent, the first blast occurred in the parking lot of Sardar Badur Khan Women’s University and resulted in the deaths of several students.
However, the bombers were not finished and moved towards the hospital where the victims were being treated. Multiple gunmen stormed into the hospital and a second bomber denoated another blast, while other gunmen threatened the hospital staff and citizens inside.
It was at the hospital that security forces entered and four gunmen were killed while one was held in custody. Security forces continued to survey the building for any additional threat following the shootings and blasts.
According to the Washington Post, a high-ranking government official who had been visiting the wounded in the hospital died along with four soldiers of the Frontier Corps.
