Tony Kanaan Wins 97th Indianapolis 500

The Indy 500, otherwise known as "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", takes place at the 2.5 mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway and it's a 200 lap race. After winning, Kanaan got doused with milk, a classic Indy 500 tradition.
Carlos Munoz came in second and Ryan Hunter-Reay finished in third. Well-known drivers Marco Andretti and Helio Castroneves ended up in fourth and sixth place respectively.
Kanaan is a Brazilian race car driver who currently drives the #11 car for KV Racing Technology. Before this year, he ranked third all-time of most laps led without winning an Indy 500.

Kanaan sped past Hunter-Reay with three laps to go after a restart. Since 1995, 10 Indy 500's have had the final lead change within the last 10 laps.
This Indy 500 shattered the record for most lead changes in a single race once Kanaan made the 68th and final one, doubling last year's short-lived record of 34. Before last year, the previous record had been 29 which was set in 1960.
Additionally, the 2013 Indy 500 set a new average speed record, with the drivers setting the mark at 187.433 miles per hour.
Kanaan is the seventh Brazilian to win the race in the past 25 years, tying the United States with the most victories over that span.
