Immense rainfall in southern Texas has resulted in over 130 swift-water rescues by authorities on Saturday, with one fatality and another person missing.  Over 12 inches of rain has fallen on San Antonio in a 24-hour period, causing massive flooding and trapping people in their homes and vehicles.

Most of the rescued people were trapped in vehicles in low-lying areas.  The only fatality at this time is a 29-year-old woman who was swept away by the flood waters after trying to exit her vehicle.  Her body was recovered down the road.  Another person is currently missing.

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro has encouraged citizens to stay off the roads, according to USA Today. San Antonio and Austin were both under flash-flood warnings and flood watches and warnings on Saturday afternoon.

San Antonio is one of the most flood-prone cities in the United States. The amount of rainfall on Saturday was the second-highest total ever for the city. The largest rainfall on record for San Antonio was in 1998, killing 11 people and causing $750 million in damage.
