President Obama addressed the media from the East Room of the White House on the IRS scandal after 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday. Obama said that, "...the misconduct [the Inspector General's report] recovered is inexcusable..." and that this type of "misconduct" is unacceptable in government, especially for the IRS. Obama added that it does not matter what political ideology the groups come from.

The president announced three changes that will be implemented, if they have not already been, in response to the IRS targeting certain conservative groups when they applied for tax exempt status.

First, Obama said that the people involved would be held responsible. He said that Secretary Lew has accepted the resignation of the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue service.

Second, Obama said that "...new safeguards..." will be put into place, so this does not happen again.

Third, Obama said that the Administration would work with Congress during their investigation "...to get this thing fiexed..." The president added that he does not want the Congressional investigation to be partisan.

Toward the end of his speech Obama added, "...good news is it's fixable..."
