A man shot and killed himself at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston on Thursday afternoon according to authorities. Witnesses stated that the armed man had an AR-15 rifle and fired at least two shots in the air before committing suicide at 1:35 p.m. CT inside Terminal B.

The man had attempted to get through a security checkpoint with the semi-automatic rifle. After an air marshal and other authorities confronted him, he pulled out another gun and shot himself. A suicide note was found by police in the man's backpack after the incident occurred.

Outside of the suspect, there were no other deaths or injuries reported on the scene. The airport however, is currently under a ground stop, which entails that planes will be stuck on the runway and will affect take-offs and landings. Around two hours after the shooting, travelers were allowed to gather their belongings in Terminal B.

Interestingly, the National Rifle Association is scheduled to begin its three-day national convention in Houston starting this Friday.
