She has been reprimanded for her weight gain and her fashion picks throughout her pregnancy, and the remarks continued this week with her fashion choice at the Met Ball. Every day since the Met Gala on Monday night in New York City, Kim Kardashian has been compared to Mrs. Doubtfire on my newsfeed on Facebook and critiqued by many on my Twitter feed. Needless to say, Kim and her flower-print, long-sleeved dress have been the biggest entertainment news story this week.

Now, the Met Gala is also known as the Costume Institute Ball, which is the opening of the fashion exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum. This year's theme was punk, so many of the stars attempted to dress up in what they considered to be punk style. Kim Kardashian was reprimanded for her look and compared to couch fabric, but I don't think people are considering the name of the event, Costume Institute Ball. She may have taken the costume term a little too literally because of her wardrobe choice, but this is beside the point. The question that should really be pondered is: Should stars be criticized for their wardrobe choices when they're pregnant?

No matter how god-awful Kim's dress was, the answer is no. The reality-TV star's fashion choices have been criticized throughout her pregnancy, probably for the fact that she is a fashion designer herself. But this still doesn't give anyone the right to talk about her fashion mishaps. Pregnancy is a gift of life that should not be criticized in any way.

Throughout her pregnancy, she has not let go of her high heels and has been seen wearing bright colored dresses, gym clothes, a leather skirt, a swimsuit and basically anything she would have worn before her pregnancy. Really, nothing is as beautiful as seeing a mom-to-be in a bathing suit and flaunting her belly, so  kudos to Kim for being brave enough to strip down to just her bathing suit.

Paparazzi have also caught Kim with a black dress with see-through panels on it and because of photographers' camera flashes, she was photographed from the back of the dress with her black underwear showing. Now, people who aren't pregnant could probably handle this photo being shown everywhere, but this is a pregnant woman we're talking about. She is already on an emotional rollercoaster because of all the changes her body is going through and the picture is just crude. Sharing the photo is completely unnecessary.

Stars defended Kim Kardashian in an article from People Magazine, telling everyone to back off because she doesn't deserve it. One of the comments came from mom-to-be Jenna Dewan-Tatum, who said, "Let's all be kind to every woman out there who is expecting... it shouldn't be about how much weight someone has gained, their fashion etc...it's a beautiful amazing moment in time and not about vanity! ... just try to enjoy the process! Not a competition."

Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx, also said, "I think women being pregnant should just be left alone. As a woman who went through that, you're already feeling like something foreign took over your body.. And to have everybody commenting on it, that's tough. Let her wear what she wants. She's so beautiful- with a face like that, who cares what your body's doing?" Her point is to leave women who are pregnant alone and let them wear what they want, because who cares? Other stars, like Gwyneth Paltrow, Molly Sims and Helena Christensen, also spoke about leaving - not only Kim Kardashian - but all pregnant women alone about how they look during their pregnancy. I'm not an expert in this, but it seems to me the only thing I would want to wear when I'm pregnant are sweatpants. I imagine if I'm carrying a child inside of me, I should be able to wear whatever I want that makes me feel comfortable.

Even though it's not okay to criticize Kim's fashion during her pregnancy, it is appropriate after she has little Kimye. She is a fashion designer and needs to live up to certain standards if she is going to sell clothes. If she wants her clothes to sell, she needs to show off her style in a tasteful way. However, the mom-to-be deserves her privacy now because no one who is expecting should be criticized. So as of now, Kim Kardashian is off the hook for Monday night's fashion choice, but after Kimye is born, there are no excuses.
