Homeowner Charged With Kidnapping, Rape In Cleveland Abductions

Castro’s brothers, Pedro, 54, and Onil, 50, were arrested Monday along with the 52-year-old homeowner but were not charged in connection with the disappearances, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Officials told CBS and the Associated Press that they expect additional counts to be made Thursday when all three are scheduled to appear in court.
From the Los Angeles Times:
Ariel Castro will be arraigned on the seven charges related to the missing women. His brothers face outstanding warrants on misdemeanor charges.
Castro is charged with kidnapping and raping three women, Amanda Berry, 27, Gina DeJesus, about 23, and Michelle Knight, 32. The fourth kidnapping count applies to Amanda Berry’s 6-year-old daughter, who was born in captivity.
Cleveland City Prosecutor Victor Perez told CBS and the AP that a paternity test would be conducted.
The three women experienced prolonged sexual and psychological abuse and suffered an unclear number of pregnancies and miscarriages, CBS and the AP reported.
Deputy Police Chief Ed Tomba said at a news conference that Castro was a “big bully” who “ran the show.” Tomba continued to say that Castro acted alone and his brothers didn’t have anything to do with it.
“There is nothing that leads us to believe they were involved or they had any knowledge of this, and that comes from statements of our victims, and their statements and their brother’s [Ariel’s] statements,” Tomba said. “Ariel kept everybody at a distance.”
The three women and child were discovered Monday after Berry managed to break through a screen door and neighbors called police. Berry and DeJesus reunited with their families Wednesday.
