Early Wednesday morning, an FBI agent shot a friend of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the purported Boston Bomber.

It was during an interview about the April 15th explosion that the man, identified as Ibragim Todashev, allegedly attacked with a knife before being shot down. The interview took place in an apartment by the FBI agent along with two Massachusetts State Police troopers and other law enforcement officials.

From the L.A. Times

“The interview was underway "when a violent confrontation was initiated by the individual," the FBI office in Boston said in a statement. "During the confrontation, the individual was killed and the agent sustained non-life-threatening injuries." The agent's identity was not released.”

The shooting is still under review, but the officials investigating the case say that “Todashev was being asked primarily about an unsolved Sept. 11, 2011, triple slaying in Waltham, Mass. Officials believe he and Tsarnaev may have had a role in the slayings, in which three men were found with their throats cut and marijuana sprinkled over their bodies.” There is also belief that Todashev met with Tsarnaev in Boston before the bombing.

After Tsarnaev was killed in a police shootout and his brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was arrested, the police interviewed a wide range of people for more information on the case, which inevitably led to Todashev’s case.

Todashev had multiple run-ins with the police force, aside from constant interrogations, and was charged with aggravated battery with great bodily harm in Orange County, Fla. over a parking spot at an outlet mall on May 4th.

Todashev went on record as being outraged by the Boston bombing and stunned to realize that he knew the Tsarnaev brothers.
