The U.S. Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Center reported a 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Greenville, California at 8:47 PM on Thursday night.  Greenville is located in Northeastern California, about 150 miles from Sacramento. It was felt by thousands of people across Northern California, Oregon, and Nevada. However, no major injuries or damage have been reported.

Aftershocks followed the earthquake including a 3.5 at 8:55 p.m. and two more that struck early Friday morning. According to the Washington Post, the quake cased “moderate damage including to a water tank that supplies hundreds of homes with drinking water.” About 300 people in the Northern California are impacted by the water tank damage. Pacific Gas & Electric said about 660 homes lost power at around 9:30 last night.

Plumas County Sheriff Greg Hagwood stated, “Without question, it’s the strongest quake I’ve ever felt here. It was very unsettling and it lasted long enough to create a measure of anxiety. The supermarkets and stores had a lot of things come off the shelves.”
