Instead of the usual Saturday presidential weekly address, President Obama turned the mike to Francine Wheeler whose six year-old son Ben was killed at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Joined by her husband, David Wheeler, Mrs. Wheeler plead with listeners to support stricter gun control.

"Thousands of other families across the United States are also drowning in our grief," said Francine Wheeler, choking back tears in the address broadcast Saturday. "Please help us do something before our tragedy becomes your tragedy."

Currently, the senate is considering a democrat-backed bill that would expand background checks, strengthen laws against illegal hun trafficking and increase schools security aid.  On Thursday, senators voted 68-31 to move forward with the bill; however it hasn't been passed yet and its fate in the Republican-dominated House is uncertain.
