USC Springfest Preview: Who Are The Headliners?

This Saturday, forget about all those other pricey music festivals and head over to McCarthy Quad for Springfest 2013!

On April 6th, the USC Concerts Committee is bringing back the all-day music and arts festival that is free for USC students. The event starts at 11:30 AM and lasts into the night, featuring a variety of performers, ranging from USC students to award winning artists. The Concert Committee has taken notes from music festivals around the country in order to create a diverse lineup that truly has something for everybody. 

Here is a preview of the four headliners for Springfest. 

If you love Coachella, than you’ll love…. Walk The Moon 

Who: Walk The Moon

When: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Where: Leavey Stage

For fans of: Young The Giant, Empire of the Sun, Youngblood Hawke, Grouplove,

About the Artist: Walk the Moon is an indie rock band that has climbed the charts into mainstream success overnight. The band has made a name for themselves after opening for Young The Giant on tour, and in 2012 they released their sophomore self-titled album. The band is currently in the middle of their first headline tour. Walk The Moon is bound to be a hit at USC’s Springfest. Their cheerful lyrics, upbeat tempo and catchy sing-a-long choruses will make all of the students want to get up and dance.

What we’re looking forward to hearing: “Anna Sun,” “Quesadilla,” “Tightrope” 

If you love Warped Tour, then you’ll love… Travis Barker & MixMaster Mike

Who: Travis Barker and MixMaster Mike

When: 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Where: Doheny Stage

For Fans Of: Yelawolf, Tech N9ne

About the Artist: Travis Barker and MixMaster Mike are teaming up to rock the stage at Springfest. Barker is most recognized as the drummer from Blink-182, and MixMaster Mike rose to fame during his time as a member of the Beastie Boys. The two teamed up in 2011 and have become an ideal combo due to Barker’s drumming and MixMaster Mike’s DJ skills. USC students can look forward to a collaboration unlike any other with these two.

What we’re looking forward to hearing: “Give the Drummer Some” and “Saturday Night"

If you love Ultra Music Festival, than you’ll love….. A-Trak

Who: A-Trak

When: 8:00 PM-9:20 PM

Where: Doheny Stage

For Fans Of: Treasure Fingers, Flosstradamus, Diplo, Kid Sister

About the Artist: is USC students are going to be on their feet with Electro-House Canadian DJ A-Trak. Born Alain Macklovitch, A-Trak was the youngest DJ to win the Disco Mix Club World DJ Championship in ’97, and he has only gone up from then. In 2004, A-Trak was hired by Kanye West to be his personal tour DJ, and in 2007 he founded his own record label, Fool’s Gold. His music been featured on movie soundtracks such as “Project X”, and he has remixed artists such as Justice, Drake and Kid Cudi. A-Trak is sure to give USC students a mind-blowing performance they will never forget.

What we’re looking forward to hearing: “Ray Ban Vision,” “Money Makin,” “Stingray”

If you love Austin City Limits, then you’ll love…. Big Sean

Who: Big Sean

When: 9:45 PM - 11:00 PM

Where: Doheny Stage

For Fans Of: Meek Mill, Pusha T, Kanye West, Tyga

About the Artist: Sean Michael Anderson, better known as Big Sean, is Springfest’s leading headliner. The 25 year-old-rapper is signed to Kanye West’s label G.O.O.D (Getting Out Our Dreams) Music as well as Def Jam Recordings. His first studio album, “Finally Famous,” was released in 2011, and he has collaborated with many hip-hop artists including, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell. Big Sean is the performer to bring Springfest to a close.

What we’re looking forward to hearing: “Clique,” “Guap,”  “Mercy”

In addition to the continuous performances on the two main stages, there will also be a fashion showcase, food trucks, photo booths, a vinyl-painting booth, a how-to DJ booth and so much more at Springfest. This is one event you don’t want to miss. Mark your calendars and see you on the quad!
