USC Agrees To Partner With Workers Rights Consortium
The University of Southern California, following years of urging by student activists, has agreed to join with the Workers Rights Consortium, an independent group that monitors collegiate apparel factories worldwide, according to a student activist press release.
Earlier this month, students from the activist group The Student Coalition Against Labor Exploitation (SCALE) met with the university's president in person, trying to convince him to partner with WRC.
For years, student activists have voiced opposition to what they've said are the sweatshop conditions invoked to produce clothes sold with the university's logo.
When USC's president C.L. Max Nikias agreed to meet with SCALE members on the issue, it seemed the university was taking steps toward assuaging these concerns.
