As the U.S. continues to search for a hidden missile launch site on the east coast of North Korea, the Pentagon will be making an effort to minimize rhetoric that has the potential to further instigate North Korean belligerence, CNN reported Thursday.

Pentagon officials expressed concern that announcements of American military deployments in response to inflammatory statements by North Korea may have escalated tensions between the two nations.

"We accused the North Koreans of amping things up, now we are worried we did the same thing," said a Defense Department official.

While officials have acknowledged that North Korea's actions may indicate an intended missile attack, it is believed that a launch at this time would only be a test.
