Supreme Court Sounds Skeptical About Cancer Gene Patent

The Supreme Court was skeptical Monday about the legality of a possible patent on genes that could detect breast cancer genes, according to USA Today.

The Court said that Myriad Genetics, the company trying to patent the genes, have discovered a force of nature rather than an invention.

The Court did say they might be willing to compromise on possible patents.

According to USA Today, the Court's skepticism could spell a victory for doctors, geneticists and cancer patients who want to open up the research for breast and ovarian cancer.
