Deceased Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was influenced by an Armenian friend he went to mosque with known only as Misha, who steered the elder Tsarnaev towards a more radical interpretation of Islam, the AP reported Tuesday.

As Neon Tommy reported earlier on Tuesday, both Tamerlan and his younger brother, Dzhokhar, were motivated by U.S. involvement in the Middle East. It wasn't until the report was released Tuesday afternoon that it became more evident how the brothers became radicalized, after the AP spoke to Elmirza Khozhugov, the ex-husband of Tamerlan's sister.

From the AP

"(Tamerlan) began opposing the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He turned to websites and literature claiming that the CIA was behind the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and Jews controlled the world...

Tamerlan took an interest in Infowars, a conspiracy theory website. Khozhugov said Tamerlan was interested in finding a copy of the book "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," the classic anti-Semitic hoax, first published in Russia in 1903, that claims a Jewish plot to take over the world."...

"Misha was telling him what is Islam, what is good in Islam, what is bad in Islam," said Khozhugov, who said he was present for the conversation. "This is the best religion and that's it. Mohammed said this and Mohammed said that."

The report also outlined that the younger Tsanaev was easily influenced by his older brother and would listen to anything Tamerlan said.

It wasn't until 2008 or 2009, when Tamerlan met Misha that he became far more serious about Sunni Islam and began having anti-U.S. government sentiments.

Though Khozhugov currently resides in Kazakhstan, he was close to Tamerlan while married to his sister, and became worried as the elder Tsarnaev quit playing music and boxing.

He would also become a frequent visitor to Infowars, which is known for being part of the 9/11 Truth Movement, and to Inspire, which is published by the Yemeni arm of al-Qaeda. The AP was unable to identify Misha as of Tuesday evening.
