Obama Urges For Americans To Not Forget 'Newtown' Ahead Of Control Debate

President Obama urged a full auditorium at the University of Hartford Monday night to not forget “Newtown” ahead of a controversial gun control debated in Congress. 

"We have to tell Congress it's time to restore the ban on military-style assault weapons, and a 10-round limit for magazines, to make it harder for a gunman to fire 154 bullets into his victims in less than five minutes. Let's put that to a vote," Obama urged the crowd, The Hartford Courant reported. 

After finishing his speech the President boarded Air Force One with a group of families impacted by the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School last December. 

Despite Obama’s emotional rhetoric at the University of Hartford, Republicans in Washington D.C., such as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, promised to block the gun control bill.
