President Obama's second inaugeration may only be a few months behind us, but for Democratic powehouse and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, now may be the prime time for her to kickstart a 2016 presidential race.

An article published by Politico claims Clinton's endorsement of Terry McAuliffe's Virgina gubernatorial campaign will serve as a "testing ground for Clinton's clout, operatives and donors."

According to Politico, McAuliffe and his top allies have suggested to several of these donors that supporting the McAuliffe campaign may serve as ground floor entry into Hillary 2016.

While McAuliffe's campaign has officially discouraged its perception as a stepping stone for a future Clinton campaign, it is anticipated that Clinton's performance in Virgina will bear heavily on any aspirations she may have for the presidency:

The success or failure of McAuliffe's campaign is a chance to measure Clinton's strength and organization in a critical state that now rivals Ohio as the pivotal swing state for winning a presidential election.

According to Time, Clinton has kept a relatively low profile since concluding her term as Secretary of State. However, her endorsement of same-sex marriage to the Human Rights Campaign last March and the delivery of her first paid remarks since leaving office have brought her back into the public eye.

Clinton has also fared consistently well in Democratic party and national surveys for the 2016 race, Time reports.

While neither Clinton, nor the Democratic National Committee, have made any official announcement of Clinton's intent to campaign for the presidency, the possibility is already considered ripe for public debate.

Meanwhile, the pro-Clinton SuperPAC “Ready for Hillary,” which began operation in January, announced on Monday that it was “off to a ‘super’ start, with more than 100,000 grassroots supporters just two months after filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.

Clinton's rumored presidential race has also drawn a flood of attention on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Both the American public and media outlets will likely continue to watch Clinton and her affiliates for further signs of a 2016 campaign.
