L.A. mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel was endorsed Monday by Rep. Maxine Waters, one of the city's prominent African American leaders, according to the L.A. Times.

The endorsement comes as a further blow to opponent Eric Garcetti's campaign, which has received very little support from the city's African American voters.

Both Greuel and Garcetti lobbied hard for Waters' endorsement, hoping to gain an edge in a runoff election that has drawn little public interest and has no clear frontrunner.
