Getting Sensual: The Art of the Five Senses” is a collaborative reporting project with The Daily Trojan, Neon Tommy and an Arts Reporting class.

What started as a typical news assignment in Sasha Anawalt’s Journalism 447 Arts Reporting class in the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism grew organically into a package that put the art of human perception center stage.

Anawalt tasked her students with a month-long assignment to interview a Los Angeles artist and asked them to observe the process of art making, whatever that may be. The students found art forms ranging from performance art, to cooking, to dance and beyond.

What resulted was a variety of experiences that fit within the five senses, with each story told through multimedia.

In this package, you’ll get a taste of Chef Michael Cimarusti’s dazzling food, see a video of how touch can change lives, and discover a performance artist who follows her nose--and more.

Contributing reporting and photography is by Edward Kim, Cal Tabuena-Frolli, Funmi Akinyode, Laurel Galanter, Bryce Rankin, Jenny Sun and Andrea Alonso.
