According to the results, LA City Council member Garcetti is leading Greuel by 10 points with 50 percent support of all L.A. voters and 50 percent of the female vote.

The LA Times reports City Controller, Wendy Greuel has 41pecent of the female vote according to the poll while 38 pecent of men support Greuel to Garcetti’s 51 percent male support.

Because Greuel’s campaign has revolved around her historic bid to become L.A.’s first female mayor, experts believe she might be suffering from something similar to what Hillary Clinton faced in the 2008 presidential election.

“Clinton emphasized her qualities of strength and toughness to such a degree that it mitigated her gender advantage. The difference is that Greuel might still have the time to fix it," said Dan Schnur, director of the USC Price/LA Times Poll and the Unruh Institute of Politics at USC.

Garcetti leads Greuel among young voters, Latinos and whites. Among black voters, Greuel leads Garcetti with 55 percent of black voters compared to the 35 percent support for Garcetti.

The USC Price/LA Times Poll conducted April 15-17 comes one month before the runoff election, slated for May 21.
