Capture Of Second Boston Bombing Suspect Confirmed
The second Boston Marathon bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was captured Friday after a drawn-out investigation by police.
Boston CBS affiliate, WBZ-TV confirmed the arrest. It followed an hours-long standoff, after law enforcement pinned the alleged bomber on a boat in Watertown.
Tsarnaev, 19, had been on the run since early Friday morning after a firefight with police. The initial violence left two dead: his brother, 26-year-old fellow bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and police officer Sean Collier.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev ran over his wounded brother as he fled from police, The Boston Globe reported. Prior to hiding on the boat, the suspect had eluded a dragnet, abandoned the car he was driving and escaped on foot.
According to CNBC, a Watertown resident noticed blood on the cover of her trailered boat, parked in her backyard, and called police. Authorities arrived after thermal imaging showed someone was hiding inside.
Residents of Boston have not yet been given clearance to leave their homes and travel the town normally.
