Staff Reporter

Every other week, Staff Reporter Jillian Morabito showcases some of the tunes you should be tuning in to. Here are her picks for your new Must Listen Playlist:

It’s the first weekend of March, so whether you’re online finalizing the last details for that trip to Cabo or just online shopping on Urban Outfitters like the rest of us, might as well update your playlist while you’re at it. You can also be avoiding midterms, like all of us. Here are some new tracks I found to be pretty rad and I think you will too.

“Walking in Your Footsteps” by Shout Out Louds

Releasing their fourth album, Swedish Indie band the Shout Out Louds divulge their up-tempo beats just in time for those drives down to Santa Monica that you will inevitably make this springtime. “Walking in Your Footsteps” is, in my opinion, the best song on the album because of the catchy refrain; the Peruvian flute is just the icing on the cake. Be sure not to listen to the lyrics too carefully because it’ll make the song sound like the anthem of stalkers. Just don’t do it.

“Easy to Love” by Ivan & Alyosha

Ivan & Alyosha released their latest album, “All the Times We Had,” this week. Already a fan, I was pleasantly content with the fact that the Seattle band decided to re-release this track, even though it was already recorded on a previous album. “Easy to Love” is certainly a song that deserves to be played on the airwaves and gain more recognition. With a catchy beat and sweet lyrics, the song takes the listener on a journey as you begin to feel bad for the singer because you realize all the other girls are going to be so hard for him to love. Also: their infectious single "Running for Cover" is the iTunes free "Single of the Week" until March 5th.

“Dark Again (Lights Out)” by Gold Fields

Following the recent M83/alternative electro trend, here comes another band called Gold Fields that hopefully gains wider recognition. You should love them not only because they are Australian, but also because the pulsing beats of their songs are perfect for any dance party, even if it’s just you present. So whether you’re a “deep thinker” or a “slow drinker,” this song is definitely worth four and a half minutes of your time. Also, be sure to check out their new album “Black Sun” if you feel so inclined. The music video for “Dark Again” is also pretty neat.

“Willow Tree” by Escondido

Definitely a slower jam for your week, this alternative-country track possesses a pure emotion that leaves you wanting to hear more. This is an ideal tune for your serene Sunday soundtrack, maybe to play on your tortuous walk to Leavey or just to unwind after your presumably “eventful” weekend antics. Either way, this Nashville band says they want their music “to be like Clint Eastwood playing pop songs at one of the honky-tonks downtown.” So whether you’re into Western indie music, or just wondering what a Clint Eastwood pop song would sound like, you should definitely check out this track. Also, listen to “Chase the Moon” if you find this song enjoyable.

“Jolene” by Ray LaMontagne

If Instagram can throw it back, why can’t we? Recently, I re-discovered the sultry voice of perfection that is Ray LaMontagne. This slow jam of longing, and drug addicted metaphors, is about as perfect as Jennifer Lawrence. What makes me love our dearest Ray-Ray even more? He lives on a farm in Minnesota with his wife and two kids. Okay, let me take back all those things I’ve ever said about how men are only good for their plethora of “bro” tanks. He incessantly repeats “Still don’t know what love means,” but we know we love you Mr. LaMontagne.
