The Boston Children's Hospital conducted a study that found that "states with more gun laws have fewer gun-related deaths," USA Today reports. The study's lead investigator, Eric Fleegler, stated, "Our research gives clear evidence that laws have a role in preventing firearms deaths...Legislation should take that into consideration."

The American Medical Association released the study, which reveals that states such as Massachusetts and New York - states with the greatest number of laws regulating guns - have the lowest rates of gun-related deaths. The data for the study was provided by the U.S. Center for Disease Control's records of gun fatalities, and advocacy groups' records of state legislation.

The study, as ThinkProgress writes, "does not establish cause-and-effect," but it "does suggest a positive relationship between gun control and gun violence prevention." There is hope, however, that the results of this study will alert more lawmakers to the benefits of gun legislation.
