If elected, the 46-year-old democrat would be the first female and first openly gay mayor of New York City.

The city council veteran began her official campaigning for office Sunday with the launch of a YouTube video and tweets to her constituency.

According to Reuters, Quinn is already being considered as a front-runner in the race despite the heat she received after backing Mayor Bloomberg in his unprecedented run for an extra term as mayor.
