Queen Elizabeth II was hospitalized Sunday morning due to an apparent stomach infection left her debilitated for days according to the Associated Press. 

A palace spokesman said the queen was taken to London's King Edward VII's Hospital as a precautionary measure for symptoms of Gastroenteritis. She is reportedly in good spirits and will remain in the hospital for two days. 

The last time the queen was hospitalized was 10 years after undergoing knee surgery in 2003.

The 86-year-old monarch canceled a trip to Wales on Saturday in effort to recover from the ailment but has now announced a cancellation of her upcoming trip to Rome, which the palace announced would be rescheduled for a later date.

Gastroenteritis is more commonly referred to as the “stomach flu” and often has symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea, which causes dehydration. These symptoms can be especially worrisome in elderly patients and babies.  The ailment has been said to be caused by the Norovirus, which has been sweeping the UK in the last few months.

The queen, who has been reigning for over 60 years, continues to keep a busy schedule of public and private events and is said to have maintained her robust health.
