Pope Francis' First Day
The 76 year old is already being called the "humble pope." Rev. Thomas Rosica said Pope Francis chose to pick up his own belongs and pay his own bill "because he wanted to be sure to give a positive example to his fellow cardinals." When heading to the Sistine Chapel the new pope turned down a ride in the official papal car, USA Today reports, choosing instead to board a bus with the cardinals who elected him. NBC News said that after receiving a toast last night, Francis joked with the cardinals saying, "May god forgive you for what you have done." The pope also declined to sit on an elevated platform, as protocol states, instead standing alongside the cardinals.

After paying his bill, Francis prayed at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome for approximately 30 minutes, according to Fox News. He then lead a mass with the cardinals at the Sistine Chapel.
It is likely that Francis' next public appearance will be Sunday, according to CNN. The pontiff will probably say Mass in St. Peter's Square and then deliver a traditional blessing.
Francis will be formally installed as pope on Tuesday.
