Poll Worker Picks for L.A. 2013 Election
He usually trusts the Los Angeles Times in terms of whom to support and what issues to vote for, but this year strayed slightly.
“I voted for Wendy [Greuel],” he said. “I think it’s time to get a woman in there.”
Stevens said he thinks that over the years, the men who have run the city have not done a great job and that a woman will bring a fresh start. Although he sees Greuel as the better candidate, he anticipates that she and Eric Garcetti will face her in the May 21 runoff election.
Stevens said he voted for Mike Feuer for city attorney, Ron Galperin for city controller and no on Proposition A.
Stevens feels most strongly about the tax issues being raised with Proposition A. The proposition intends on raising sales tax by one percent. The Times argued in their endorsement section that with voters about to install a new mayor, controller and up to eight new council members, now is not the time to take that step.
“It seems like it is poorly planned out,” Stevens said. He followed the advice of the Los Angeles Times and voted against it.
Stevens said he appreciates how California conducts its elections.
“I think California does a really good job with elections,” he said. “If you look at all the crap that goes on in other states,” he continued giving Florida’s elections as an example as well as the eight-hour lines talked about in other states. “We don’t have that here.”
Stevens also pointed out the handicapped accommodations at their polling site, which make it possible for everyone to vote.
