TV Ads Convince Jesus Torres To Vote For Greuel, Not Garcetti
Jesus Torres, 31, said his vote for mayor came down to what he learned about the candidates through their television commercials. He said that from the ads he came to know candidate and councilman Eric Garcetti as "the one for pension reform."
Torres, who visited the polling station at Kilgore Manor on Central Avenue on Tuesday, said his vote for City Controller Wendy Greuel was a vote against Garcetti.
Working for L.A. County as an operator at a wastewater plant, Torres said a step forward in pension reform is "against me and it effects me."
Torres said the ads he saw in favor of Greuel focused less on reforming the pension program, which is why she won his vote.
Torres said he voted yes on Proposition A, which will increase the city's sales tax one-half cent it if passes, raising the sales tax to 9.5%. He said he supports the tax hike because of the promise that the funds will help the city's 911 emergency response services.
Proponents have argued that since the funds raised from the measure will go into the general fund there's no guarantee the money will go toward helping reduce response times, repairing pot holes or gang and drug prevention programs.
Jesus Torres' Picks:
Mayor: Wendy Greuel
