The Los Angeles Unified School District announced a settlement in 58 of the 129 student sex abuse claims brought against Miramonte Elementary School in South Angeles, Reuters is reporting.

The claims were brought against former teacher Mark Berndt who stands accused of "taking bondage-style photos of pupils," according to a lawyer for LAUSD. Berndt was fired and is currently being held in jail with a $23 million bail.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the settlement is for about $30 million and each victim is set to receive roughly $470,000.

Also from the Times:

A total of 191 claims were filed against the district, representing 129 Miramonte students and 62  parents and guardians. There are still 71 students whose claims have not been resolved.

In 60 cases, lawyers Brian Claypool, Luis Carrillo and John Manly opted out of the mediation talks. They have sued L.A. Unified and those cases will be heard together.
