BEST
Scott x Scott
Scott x Scott created a high-end urban runway show. The crowd was loving the energy and the models seemed to be too, as they owned their walks down the runway. As entertaining as the show was, it seemed that the collection could easily be swallowed up.
Even so, it held its own and brought out an amazing collection of sportswear for men and women that mixed textiles from leather to silk and prints from leopard to camouflage. This collection was on the verge of looking cheap at some points, but many of the looks pulled the show around to create a grungy collection, while still looking expensive.
Madison Park Collective hit a homerun with an entertaining show and an amazing men and women's collection. The show started with a bang as dancers came out in trousers, showed the audience just how wearable the designs really are.
The collection played with rustic muted colors for men and women and the colored jeans were wearable with a fashion forward twist; waxed and distressed.
The jeans worked for the collection, and the combination of the two brought something completely new to the table. Their looks had a vintage feel, but brought in militaristic, menswear for women, and grunge trends for the fall.
Michael Cinco
The men and women looked powerful and strong, using visual elements of head pieces. Some headpieces covered their faces, and there were body embellishments and paintings applied to the models' skin that created a ritualistic feel.
Every look was impeccable, and each embellishment was placed with a purpose. The sheer areas covered by gems were just right so that the models were not overxposed, without detracting from the effects of the sheer coverage. Hands down, Michael Cinco's collection was the best in show.
WORST
Nikki Rich fell into an unfortunate case of information overload. Although she had some stand out pieces, she was unable to create a cohesive line. From baggy harem pants to drop-waist dresses to military-inspired jackets, there was just too much for one line.
On top of those problems, the poor styling did not help. The tone from one shoe to the next did not match and the accessories didn't help to hold the line together.
Rich's show had great hair and makeup, but if we are sticking to the clothing, this line just didn't make the cut.
Brigade
Brigade, on the opposite side of the spectrum did exactly what Scott x Scott avoided doing; they made a wearable collection that looked poorly-made and not fashion forward.
Pieces similar to those from this show has been seen on racks everywhere in stores, like Charlotte Russe, with the on trend neon colors and fun graphic wear.
Unfortunately the individual pieces looked inexpensive and didn't work together to enhance their appeal as a collection.
We could not put a finger on what exactly Linden LA did wrong. The clothes just did not seem to match up.
This collection inspired nothing new.
The fabrics looked inexpensive and the clothes looked under-designed.
The show seemed serene at parts, but overall it was truly just a bore. Maybe, next time, if they are trying to go minimalistic, they should have the models wear more than a shirt with leggings.
