Kenyans Killed On Election Day During First Voting Since Violent 2007

At least 15 people were killed Monday in Kenya by gangs armed with machetes as millions voted for the next president. In 2007's Kenyan election, a divisive poll sparked weeks of tribal violence, according to Reuters.
Despite long lines, most Kenyans had a peaceful election day experience this year, whereas in 2007 more than 1,200 people were killed in the fallout of the last election's outcome.
Reuters said that just before voting began Monday, at least nine security officers were hacked to death in two attacks, and that six of the attackers were killed.
Officials blamed the attacks on a separatist movement, suggesting that their motives are different from the motives behind the 2007 violence.
