Brian Etienne (Denise Guerra/Neon Tommy).
Brian Etienne, 24, knows mayoral candidate Jan Perry because she was involved in his high school. Outside the polling station at the 42nd St. Elementary School in Leimert Park, just a block away from his home, Etienne said he voted for Perry and described her as "passionate and dedicated to schools."

Etienne has lived in Leimert Park his entire life and said he likes the councilwoman's straightforwardness and her dedication to the city of Los Angeles.

Etienne said he hopes Perry will be able continue her strides with building businesses in South L.A, specifically in Leimert Park.

"A lot of businesses, if they're not mainstream and [part of a chain], then they don't thrive," Etienne said. "Bringing that up [is important]."

Etienne said he voted no on Measure A and voted for Carmen Trutanich as city attorney.

His interaction with Perry is what gave Etienne the confidence that Perry can deliver on creating a "better L.A.”

He said, "Politicians are not the most liked people in Los Angeles, but I like her."
