“Girls” ninth episode, “On all Fours,” had viewers' complete attention this week. And this viewer in particular up in arms. The good, no the great - this episode’s music was awesome and consistent. The not so good - well, everyone’s going crazy.

We start with Adam and Natalia returning to her apart from a date. Unlike Hannah, Natalia is clear, concise and get’s right to the point. “I’m ready to have sex now,” she says. “I mean, I’ve been thinking about it and you’ve been really nice all week.” Good enough reason? It was for her and Adam. But Natalia was clear on several rules, likes and dislkes before they proceeded. And surprisingly, Adam (who always called the shots with Hannah) appreciated it.

Meanwhile Hannah’s editor is not seeing much progress in her book. “Did your hymen grow back?” he asked. Her story is missing the sex, so much so that he encourages Hannah to make it up and turn the piece into a novel.

Shoshanna hasn’t changed much, except for the fact that she’s having "making out with the doorman" guilt, so multiply her usual talking a mile a minute by two. Marnie is in serious pursuit of a music career that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, while Hannah’s mental health is going down hill.

As she works on her story, reaching for olives for a snack and some extra pillows for cushioning, she get’s a painful splinter in her bum. And after removing and bandaging it, she decides to manicure the rest of her body, only to shove a q-tip deep into her ear.

Another indication of just how much Hannah is struggling is how she calls her distant parents for help rather than “Anyone of my very close 12 to 15 friends,” she responds when her mom asks who is going to accompany her to the hospital. After the doctor removes the q-tip from her ear, Hannah, asks to keep the souvineer covered in eardrum blood.

Snap to a much more fun environment, a celebration of Charlie’s company reaching 20,000 average monthly users. Ray and Shoshanna are invited and stay around for a while (despite their sarcastic comments about how pretentious Charlie’s party is.) Marnie comes too, after receiving an invite from Charlie, who stood her up for lunch.

Rye Rye’s “Boom Boom” kicked off the stellar sounds.

Passion Pit’s “Take A Walk” was quick to follow as we switch to Natalia’s friend’s engagement party, where Adam seems very uncomfortable and out of place. And thus the party music exchange continues.

“Angel Haze’s “Werkin’ Girls” compliments Shoshanna’s fast moves on other guys at the party which Ray seriously disapproves of.

Snap back to Adam as he steps out of the party he’s attending for some air, only to be left short of breath when he runs into a half-naked Hannah waling home from the hospital. Cue Cass McComb’s “Bobby, King of Boys Town” and a very awkward (far beyond usual for those two) conversation between Hannah and Adam, especially when he refers to his girlfriend.

While Hannah is left unsure what to do next (other than go home) Adam asks the bartender for a Jack and ginger after assuring Natalia that it’s ok. In comes the magic of the evening, also know as Fiona Apple’s “Valentine.”

Adam and Natalia do the wasted dance while we snap back to Charlie’s party, which is bumping Santigold’s “Girls.” But only for a hot second, as Marnie interrupts the DJ and insists on choosing the song. Or rather, performing a song. Yep, to everyone’s dismay, Marnie turns Kanye West’s “Stronger” into a ballad. A ballad that Charlie couldn’t hate more.

“Dude you got to get your shit together, you’re flailing,” he tells Marnie. But somehow that translates into "let’s have sex between the gigantic iMacs in my office, screw who might see." Yelle’s “Comme Un Enfant” accompanies this intimate reunion, while Shoshanna confesses to Ray that she…held the doorman’s hand. Maybe she’s changing like everyone else.

Meanwhile Natalia visits Adam’s place after he reacted poorly to the Jack and ginger. She suggests it needs a bit of reorganizing before we get a reminder of the old Adam. “Get on all fours,” he commands. “Crawl to the bedroom.” As Natalia follows his directions Adam swoops her up and moves quickly into the bedroom which ends with a rather degrading finale that pisses her off. So much so that it looks like this relationship that started fast might end even quicker.

Hannah and Daniel Johnston’s “Life In Vain” close out the episode as she punctures her other eardrum with the old q-tip.
