The polls at the USC Caruso Catholic Center were almost silent during Tuesday's morning hours. The silence was occasionally broken by the few people who came to cast their vote for the L.A. mayoral election.

Robert Scales left the polling tables with his dog, Jade, at the USC Caruso Catholic Center with a smile on his face.

“I don’t think I ever missed an election since I was able to vote,” Scales said.

Scales said he voted for David Roberts for the position of District 9 city council because he wanted someone who was new to politics. He said he was looking to vote for someone who was young and seemed interesting enough to bring about change, which to him was Roberts.

He also voted for mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel, city attorney candidate Mike Feuer and city controller candidate Ron Galperin.

Scales also said he voted in favor Proposition A, which proposes a sales tax increase in L.A. He said he voted for anything he thought would help the district, which included Proposition A. Scales also said, however, that he wished there was a different place where the funding for a better district could come from.

Scales, who is a retired dean of the USC School of Theatre, has lived in the 9th District for the past 20 years.
