A $25,000 reward has been offered as part of the search for a driver that left one man with numerous broken bones and an amputated leg.

Cyclist Damian Kevitt, 36, was riding westbound on Zoo Drive near Griffith Park and 5 Freeway on Feb. 17 when a minivan veered left and struck him. The van was stopped in heavy traffic and gave no signal he was going to turn, The California Highway Patrol said.

The cyclist fell to the ground, somehow became lodged beneath the older, grey Toyota minivan and was dragged 600 feet onto the Freeway before he was freed from the speeding car.

City Councilman Tom LaBonge and the California Highway Patrol hope the reward will motivate sources and witnesses to come forward with more information.

"A car shouldn't be a weapon,” the councilman said in a statement. “Let's do our part to end this kind of violent crime.”

The driver never stopped to check on the cyclist, and police currently have no leads.
