Have you ever wanted to learn how to create the perfect smoky eye, or perhaps just learn how to create a realistic-looking "bullet hole" on your face for Halloween? Look no further, because The Makeup Show came to town this weekend at the California Market Center in Downtown Los Angeles and brought along some great tips.

The two days of the event were choc-full of demos, workshops, keynote speakers and industry pros educating attendees on makeup tricks. There were seminars on everything from contouring to "how to create cuts and scars," and even business forums for those working in the industry.

Pro stylists, including celebrity makeup artists, gave tutorials and shared little-known beauty tips in addition to selling their diverse products. Discounts such as 40% off deals on boutique brands as well as big names such as Smashbox and Make Up For Ever were plentiful.

Here are the best tips and tricks we picked up from the pros at the annual industry event, in no particular order:

1. Try using an all-natural brush soap for a quick and easy way to clean your natural or synthetic makeup brushes. Just wet your brush and swirl it on the soap as you would do on a palette, then dry for a clean brush without the hassle! It's made with Argan oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, passionfruit oil and jojoba oil, to name a few... so you know it'll deep-condition your brushes while it cleans.

2. Don't be afraid of color. You shouldn't worry about going too bold, as long as you balance it out by playing down other features. There are some awesome, highly pigmented colors out there, and you should take advantage of the current trend and go big or go home!

3. A stroke of the highlighting wand around the eye is the secret weapon to making your cheekbones pop and creating a brighter look. A little on the collarbone also goes a long way, as it highlights this delicate area.

4. Well-shaped brows can really make a look, and when filled in with a brow pencil or brow powder one shade lighter, it can add fullness to your brows without taking over your face... because pencil-thin is way out. Also, blending is key so it looks natural.

5. Ever wanted a tattoo, but you're just not willing to commit for life? Skyn Demure has adorable and intricate temporary tattoos that look real and can actually last for days. Luckily, whereas most booths didn't give product demos without purchase, Skyn Demure was excited to share their goodies with the crowd. We tried a sample tattoo on, and foung that it has a matte finish that blends well with your skin. Thank goodness, so you don't have to worry about your tat getting that tacky, glistening halo in the wrong lighting. They also sell Swarovski crystals if you want to bedazzle your tattoo or your body for a special event.

The Makeup Show travels nationally and will be back in L.A. again next year. No matter how much or how little you know about makeup, there's always something to learn at this event, whether it's to get your hands on the newest products before they launch, or to go the extra mile for your Halloween costume next year.
