President C.L. Max Nikias announced Monday in a letter to the USC community that Vice President for Student Affairs Michael L. Jackson will resign at the end of June

The university will conduct a national search to fill Jackson's position. The vice president will take  a one-year sabbatical from USC and return as emeritus vice president and executive director of International Advancement. He will also continue to teach in the Rossier School of Education, according to the letter.

Jackson served as the vice president for student affairs for 18 years, and oversaw the construction of the International Residential College at Parkside, the Arts and Humanities Residential College, the Ronald Tutor Campus Center and the Engemann Student Health Center. He also supervised the expansion of the USC Career Center and helped add the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Center, the Office of Veterans and Transfer and the Office of Parent Programs.

Nikias praised Jackson's fundraising abilities and commitment to expanding many of the university's international programs.

“As we acknowledge Dr. Jackson’s stellar service to USC, we wish him continued sucess in the next phase of his career,” Nikias said. “His contributions to this university are both extensive and exceptional, and for this, we are all truly grateful."
