A twist occurred at the bail hearing of Oscar Pistorius Thursday when it was revealed the case's lead investigator had been pulled and charged with attempted murder.

South African Police Service lead investigator Hilton Botha is being charged with seven counts of attempted murder, according to CNN. In 2011 Botha and other officers are alleged to have chased and fired shots at a bus filled with people while drunk.

The Huffington Post is reporting that Lt. Gen. Vinesh Moonoo will replace Botha in the investigation into Pistorius' alleged crime. National Commissioner Riah Phiyega called Moonoo a "top detective" and said the new lead investigator will "gather a team of highly skilled and experienced detectives."

During the three day bail hearing, the former lead investigator was slammed by Pistorius' defense attorney for not conducting a proper investigation.

It is unclear whether Botha's charges will impact Pistorius' case. South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority's Spokeswoman Bulelwa Makeke said of Botha, "The important issue here is that the state was not relying on just his oral testimony, it's really relying more on forensics and that real hard evidence that came out of the scene."

No decision regarding bail was reached Thursday, but Pistorius' hearing is set to resume Friday.
