Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee sprint runner charged with premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, applied for licenses for six more guns just over three weeks before shooting his girlfriend dead in his home.

According to the Washington Post, Pistorius filled out the applications on Jan. 22. A few weeks later, Pistorius maintains the slaying of Steenkamp with a 9 mm pistol was accidental and the result of mistaking her as an intruder inside his bathroom.

The 9 mm handgun involved in the incident was licensed to Pistorius. He looked to add a Smith & Wesson model 500 revolver, a .38-calibur Smith & Wesson revolver, a Vector .223-calibur rifle and three shotguns, according to documents recovered by the Associated Press.

The six pending applications were sent back to a Johannesburg police and firearms station in Johannesburg for reapplication on Monday, four days after Steenkamp's death. It remains unclear why the applications were sent back to be refiled.
