The Obama administration has made the decision to urge the Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriage in the Prop. 8 case, which examines "whether California voters had the right to ban same-sex marriage," the Huffington Post reports. The President will submit a friend-of-the-court brief on the issue.

President Obama's brief will add to the amicus briefs already filed by 13 states and Washington, D.C., and one signed by many Republicans, calling on the court to strike down Prop. 8.

This case constitutes a landmark case, in that this is the first time the Supreme Court will judge whether same-sex marriage is constitutional.
