This game has the potential for an ESPY. Notre Dame's five-overtime victory over Louisville was a game for the record books that will be talked about for the rest of the season. It will be broken down and put under a microscope. Statisticians will have a field day crunching the numbers to determine the “facts” behind why Notre Dame won this epic battle.

I won’t offer any metrics or a play-by-play analysis of the game, but here are ten observations that should spark your interest:

1. Not to be a killjoy, but Notre Dame’s 104-101 win over Louisville was only its second Big East win against a team with a winning conference record.

2. Garrick who? Garrick Sherman doesn’t start, but owns the second best field goal percentage on the Fightish Irish. And his tip-in with less than 10 seconds to play in the fourth overtime was unreal.

3. Luck of the Irish? Notre Dame is 16-2 at Purcell Pavilion.

4. Before the game we knew Louisville had poor three-point shooting – we did not know it was 5-for-25 poor.

5. No game can better stress the importance of depth. 70 of the game’s 205 points were scored off the bench.

6. Louisville's Chane Behanan is a monster on the boards, as shown by his 15 rebounds Saturday night.

7. Jerian Grant will make Notre Dame's opponents think twice about a “safe lead” come March.

8. An active youth – Of the top nine scorers in the game, none were seniors.

9. Notre Dame gets to carry its momentum into a matchup with DePaul (1-9 in the Big East). Louisville, meanwhile, has to turn around and take on a St. John's team (7-4 in the Big East) that took down Notre Dame earlier this season.

10. Mark Saturday, March 9 on your calendars. Five of the past six matchups between the two teams have gone into overtime. Perhaps when Notre Dame visits Louisville we will see a sixth OT – or maybe just a “normal” single overtime thriller.
