Lay's put the power in the mouths of consumers on February 19th when three new fan-nominated chip flavors went on sale.

Lays' latest promotional stunt entices customers through social media and direct interaction.

After a nationwide contest for the next Lay's flavor was issued via the "Do Us a Flavor" campaign, a panel of chefs and flavor experts received about 3.8 million submissions from people nationwide. From there, judges picked the three finalists: chicken and waffles, cheesy garlic bread, or Sriracha.

All three flavors are now being sold at retailers nationwide. Fans will be expected to vote for their favorites by Lay's Facebook page or by texting "VOTE" to 24477.

They can also vote through Twitter using the hashtags #SaveChickenWaffles, #SaveGarlicBread or #SaveSriracha. Voting will close early May and the flavor with the most votes will stay on store shelves.

While the current intent is to keep the one that most people vote for, the other flavors may remain on shelves if they sell well.

What does the person who submitted the winning flavor receive? Besides the obvious satisfaction of knowing they came up with America's favorite chip flavor, the person who submitted the winning flavor will receive one of two different prize options: $1 million, or one percent of the chip's 2013 sales, whichever is more. The runners-up will win $50,000.

For now, consumers will have to put their money where their mouth is and begin trying and voting on one of the three new flavors.
