The Illinois state Senate passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage. The bill still has to pass the House, but Governor Quinn has already indicated that he will sign the bill if it does.

The Democratic Senate voted 34-21 in favor of the bill, approved on Valentine's Day. Gay rights groups had launched a campaign to highlight the issue of same-sex marriage on Valentine's Day, and in this favorable vote they are victorious.

Three other states are also currently considering same-sex marriage bills: Rhode Island, Delaware and Hawaii.
