A hot air balloon with 20 tourists and a pilot aboard was flying over Luxor, an ancient Egyptian city when it caught fire and crashed into a sugar cane field.

In the hot air balloon were tourists from France, The United Kingdom, Belgian, Hungary, Japan and Hong Kong, Luxor Governor Ezzat Saad told the Associated Press.

According to the Associated Press the dead bodies of the tourists were strewn throughout the field and around the scraps of the hot air balloon.

There is also reported to be three survivors—the pilot and two tourists from The United Kingdom, although one of the British tourists later died of injuries in a local hospital.

Shortly after the crash Egypt’s civil aviation minister, Wael el-Maadawi cancelled all hot air balloon flights.

In a time when Egypt’s tourism industry has suffered a sharp decline since the 2011 political uprising the deadly crash could deliver another huge blow to the already struggling industry.
